Although MAROF is a newly built cellar and winery, our methods and process remain as simple as possible leaning on centennial traditions.

Our approach to winemaking is a combination of the richness of nature and human knowledge. We respect the natural rhythm of vine and wine. With minimal interventions, we strive for precise expression of natural features, elegance and balance of our terroir.

Our best vineyard sites produce healthy and optimally ripe grapes in accordance with organic principles. Grapes are picked and selected manually. The winemaker's interventions are minimal, with great respect to has been achieved in the vineyard. Spontaneous fermentation, masterful maceration, thoughtful maceration on lees and only the best wooden containers. Striving for perfection in everything we do, in the vineyard and the cellar. This is the story of Marof.

As Steven Spurrier wrote about our wines: "They are true vineyard wines, the vilification and ageing fairly non-interventional and suited to the grape variety and what you wish it to show and this comes across very clearly. Even the whites are much more food wines than to be drunk on their own, as most wines with complexity are.”

GRAND VIN

Three grand crus and three grand varietal wines. No compromise, no coincidence and no fleeting fashion.

Produced only when the vintage permits us to do so. The exceptional MAROF GRAND VIN are the perfect expression of Goričko, with depth. A winemaker's tribute to vineyards and varieties. Precise, complex, elegant and long-lasting. The result of uncompromising winemaking in the vineyard and in the cellar. Exceptional ageing potential, for those less impatient.

Through all our work in the vineyard and in the cellar, we strive to produce wines that mirror our grand crus to the greatest possible extent. The grapes are picked from the oldest vines in the vineyard, the yield is minimal – up to 800 grams per vine. Fermentation is spontaneous, with natural yeasts, maturation takes place in large wooden containers with a capacity of 2500 litres. White wines mature up to 24 months, red for up to 48 months. No fining or filtration before bottling.

GORIČKO - EX BREG

No compromise in the vineyards, however, we indulge in a bit of creative freedom in the cellar.

The origin of Goričko, Prekmurje remains recognisable in the wines of the MAROF GORIČKO line. The complex and harmonious foundations of the line are GORIČKO Cuvée red and GORIČKO Cuvée white. GORIČKO Chardonnay, GORIČKO Sauvignon Blanc and GORIČKO Zweigelt mirror the typical characteristics of the variety. With the GORIČKO Sylvaner and GORIČKO Pinot Gris we also take pride in the wine production in the cellar.

Wines MAROF GORIČKO are sophisticated, multi-layered and long-lasting, with a bit more width. Grape harvesting is done manually, in 10-kilogram crates. Fermentation takes place spontaneously; wines mature in wooden barrels of different volumes up to 18 months and are unfiltered and unfinned.

PREKMURJE

Wine from our grand crus that is produced as unburdened as possible. This is how it should be enjoyed too.

Pleasantly drinkable and lighter wines offer relaxed pleasure and enrich every meal or are an excellent accompaniment to evening socializing, where we do not want to count glasses or coins. They are like a worn in pair of jeans after a tiresome day in a suit.

Any winemaker who overlooks this aspect of wine has forgotten to consider the most important part of the winemaking mission and of human nature.
